TypoGuard (“the extension”) helps you detect and correct writing errors in text
fields on websites. This policy explains what data we handle, why, how long we
keep it, and what control you have over it.
The data controller is Konstantinos Kreouzis. You can reach us at
[email protected].
1. INFORMATION WE PROCESS
Text you are correcting
When you type into a text field on a website, the extension sends that text to
our backend, which passes it to the Google Gemini API to generate corrections.
This text is never stored. It exists only for the duration of the request and is
discarded once the correction is returned.
The extension does not read password fields. Inputs for passwords, credit card
numbers, card security codes, one-time codes and PINs are excluded before
anything is read, based on the field’s input type, its autocomplete attribute
and its name. It also does not read page content other than the single field you
are actively editing, and a website can exclude any field explicitly with a
data-typoguard-ignore attribute.
A device identifier
To count your monthly free corrections, we generate an identifier for your
installation. It is a randomly generated value, or on Google Chrome an
irreversible SHA-256 hash of your signed-in browser profile identifier. It is
not your name or your email, and it identifies nothing outside TypoGuard.
A cookie on our backend domain
We set a single cookie, tg_did, on our own backend domain. It holds the
identifier above so your remaining free corrections stay with your browser even
if you uninstall and reinstall the extension. It is not used for advertising, is
not shared with anyone, and cannot be read by any other website.
Your Google account identifier
The free plan allows 100 corrections a month. The first 30 work immediately
after installing. To use the rest of the monthly allowance, you connect a Google
account, which is what lets the remaining corrections follow you rather than
staying tied to one browser profile. You can also connect one at any time before
that, and you can disconnect whenever you like. What we receive and store is
described in section 7.
Premium subscribers get 5,000 corrections a month.
Your licence key, if you are a paying customer
Your licence key is sent to our backend so it can be verified with our payment
provider and your premium plan activated.
Technical and usage information
– A hashed form of your IP address, used to measure abuse of the free tier. The
raw address is never written down.
– Anonymous product events — when an upgrade prompt is shown, when an upgrade is
clicked, when an account is connected, when a review prompt is shown or
answered, and when an error occurs — recorded against the device identifier
only. No review content is ever received: the stores do not report back what a
user wrote, or whether they wrote anything at all.
– Aggregate counts of corrections by country and language. These are totals only
and are never linked back to an individual.
Settings stored in your browser
Your preferences — whether the extension is enabled, per-site toggles, typing
delay, colour theme, your plan, and your licence key — are stored in your
browser’s extension storage and synchronised by your browser if you have sync
enabled. TypoGuard no longer requires or accepts a Gemini API key from you;
corrections are handled entirely by our backend.
2. HOW WE USE YOUR DATA
– To analyse your text and return correction suggestions.
– To count corrections against your monthly free allowance, or your premium
allowance.
– To verify your licence and activate your premium plan.
– To detect and limit abuse of the free tier.
– To understand, in aggregate, which features are used and where the product
fails.
We do not use your data to build a profile of you, to target advertising, or for
any purpose unrelated to running TypoGuard.
3. LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the
following bases under Article 6 GDPR:
– Performance of a contract — producing corrections, enforcing free and premium
limits, verifying licences and processing payment.
– Performance of a contract — connecting a Google account, where it is what
allows the rest of your free monthly allowance to be provided to you. You may
disconnect at any time.
– Legitimate interests — preventing abuse of the free tier, and anonymous
product analytics.
4. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
– Cloudflare — hosts our backend and stores the data described above.
– Google (Gemini API) — generates the corrections from the text you submit. Once
text reaches Google’s API it is handled under Google’s own terms, and
TypoGuard does not control that processing.
– Google (Sign-In) — authenticates you when you connect an account.
– Lemon Squeezy — processes payments and issues and verifies licence keys.
5. DATA STORAGE AND RETENTION
Text submitted for correction ……………………. Not stored
Usage counts, licence status, account link, hashed IP . 35 days
The tg_did cookie ………………………………. Up to 400 days, or until
you clear your cookies
Anonymous product events and aggregate counters ……. 13 months
Your settings ………………………………….. In your browser, until
you uninstall
6. COOKIES
TypoGuard sets one cookie, described in section 1. It is strictly necessary to
operate the free tier fairly — without it, uninstalling and reinstalling would
reset your allowance. We set no advertising, tracking or analytics cookies, and
no third party sets cookies through the extension.
You can delete it at any time by clearing cookies in your browser. Doing so
resets the identifier, and your usage count starts again from the identifier
your extension supplies.
7. SIGNING IN WITH GOOGLE
Connecting a Google account lets your free allowance follow you rather than
staying tied to one browser, and is how you use your monthly allowance beyond
the first 30 corrections. If you connect one:
– We request only the openid scope. We never receive your email address, name,
profile picture, contacts, calendar, or any other Google data.
– We store only an irreversible hash of your Google account identifier. We
cannot reverse it to identify you.
– You can disconnect at any time from the extension’s options page.
TypoGuard’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to
the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use
requirements. The account identifier we receive is used solely to identify your
TypoGuard usage allowance. It is never transferred to third parties, never used
for advertising, and never read by a human except where required for security or
to comply with the law.
8. DATA SHARING
We do not sell, rent or trade your data. We share it only with the providers
listed in section 4, and only to the extent needed to run the service. We may
disclose data where we are legally required to do so.
9. SECURITY
All communication between the extension and our backend is encrypted in transit
over HTTPS. Correction text is never written to disk. Identifiers derived from
your browser profile or Google account are stored only as one-way hashes, so the
original values cannot be recovered from our records. Access to our backend is
restricted to the operator of the service.
10. YOUR RIGHTS
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom you have the
right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object
to its processing, and to receive it in a portable form. Where we rely on
consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. Because almost everything we
hold is keyed to a random identifier rather than to you personally, please
include your device identifier — shown on the extension’s options page — so we
can locate your records.
You may also complain to your national supervisory authority. In Greece this is
the Hellenic Data Protection Authority, dpa.gr.
11. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS
Our providers process data on servers outside the European Economic Area,
including in the United States. Those transfers are covered by the European
Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent approved safeguard,
as set out in each provider’s own terms.
12. CHILDREN
TypoGuard is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from
anyone under 16.
13. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes are reflected by revising
the “Last updated” date above, and material changes are also noted in the
extension’s release notes.
